Winter hack wanted
« on: November 19, 2016, 08:50:35 PM »
Does anyone have a cheap bike for sale?, I'm looking for something maybe 750 or above so that it can double up as a winter hack and 2 seater so that I can take the missus out, thanks Mark
(I've been looking at various bikes from Blackbirds Bandits and Fazers to Kawasaki Z7r's, anything other than a sports bike will do though)
Suzuki GT250A (Nostalgia)
1977 K7 CR750 (lookalike, what of I’m not sure)
Ducati 900SS (Soul & Speed)
Ducati M900 Monster (Handling & character)
Thruxton 1200 (suits me)
James Captain 197 (pure adrenaline, i.e. no brakes!)

It's a nightmare to clean, the mudguards are only for show, they don't actually catch anything, it's also mainly black which shows everything, cleaned it 4 times now, that's enough for this year! 😄

On Blackbirds, the rad is the problem. On the Z7R look out for gear box problems and what is wrong with a Italian scrambler  ;D ;D ;D

Cheers for the tips Trigger, too lazy to clean Italian scramblers 😄, just had a look at a fazer, all the header clamps had snapped, headlight didn't work, engine was fluffy and he wanted a bag of sand, no thanks.

I could add a different suggestion, old aircooled bmw twinshock bikes, my ex plod r80 rt was excellent on snow covered roads, those skinny tyres gripped like the proverbial and I used mine to cross the Brecon beacons road in th snow to vist my better half when she was in uni. it was rock steady regardless of weather and the fairing kept the weather off. Just check the switchgear and wiring is good as both my bikes had issues with both, despite being much lower milage than my cb500/4. Mine also proved capable of handling very well even 2 up with luggage. Sadly mine is in bits in a stalled rennovation so not fit to sell. Oh yeah, gearboxes are a weak point too, be sure to check it works right, they were clunky at the best of times, but again both mine needed major surgery - due to old repairs done badly.
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock

Strangely enough I made an offer on a BMW earlier today, BMW K1200rs,  bit different to the R series I know, anyway the offer was declined (because it was so derisory 😄), but yes the big twins are on the shopping list, anything is really provided it's cheap and in reasonable condition.

Another great choice, however I have just made a purchase!, CBR1000F, love me or hate em I always fancied having one, and definitely easy to clean !.

I had a 1000F back in the 90's, great bike. Another good winter bike is the old but very reliable bike is the ST1100.
