You all on Vacation?
« on: July 05, 2008, 05:40:19 PM »
It's been very quiet on here this week.

Thought I'd post this just to say that I'm definitely not on holiday - though I am planning a short bike tour around Northern France with Jim Shea. Triumph/Ducati I'm afraid - the old bikes will stay in the barn!

Best bit - the wives are going in the car - so we get to ride around in France with no luggage!!

I've seen virtually nowt on this site for a wee while, geuss everyone's enjoying the weather ;)
My bike's still waiting for mot and there's a second hand boyer ignition in post for it 8) I finally gave in and pulled the carbs off and gave them a clean, carb cleaner stings like billy o when it gets in you eyes but I now know why the bike was being so hard to start. Dirty is an understatement when it comes to what came out of the airways ;D I should be back on the road in not too many weeks..............
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock

I've been working on a Daytona 1000. Runs on two. Guess what? Wasted spark ignition!

Also had one or two probs with my Sprint ST. See my blog for the story.

Working in St Albans at the moment, so 100 miles per day commute. M4 M25...

Tried a Trident 900 (armchair - loved it), Trophy 900 (not so sure) and the Sprint, now with Daytona 955 engine.

I've been using my other half's bike for the last few months cb250 nighthawk, I only need to top it up once a month thanks to doing long shifts etc. That excellent fuel economy is no incentive to fix the old cb500, especially combined with the low maintenence.  ;D hence the electronic ignition. I used to use the cb500 all the time last few years just started to tell on the bike, not a bad showing for an oldie.

Dave - I've just registered on the HOC site and see you're there as well (unless there are two "Dave M"s)

I've been talking to their webmeister about trashing the clunky old tech board for a proper forum.

One of these days I may even join the club!

It is me Steve and their site is very clunky and slow so I don't go on too often.

We had a tornado pass our house today!

How cool is that?  8)

Yep very quiet, I usually pop in daily to check if there are any posts, maybe all those SOHC's are running like little sewing machines at the moment. Mine is getting out and about when the sun shines, it's running well apart from the tendency to foul up the odd plug, running on Denso plugs has improved this as advised by Hondaman on the other SOHC site. The real answer is probably to take a drill to the awfully restrictive muffler that I fitted from David Silver spares (BSM). But it's running great apart from that.

Cheers

I haven't touched my CB for a while now, though I am still planning to take it to the Ace for the 70's day on the 20th if the weather's good.

I've just gone and bought myself a new (well to me) scooter. Don't laugh... but it's a 2006 Piaggio X8 400ie...

I'm picking it up on saturday and probably will take it straight from the dealers down to Dorset to see my mum (about 140 miles)!

I had an hour test ride on it on Saturday just gone... it was brill, very comfy, fairly quick and feels solid and stable to ride. Definitely feels safer on the motorway than either my CB350F or my old 250 Aprilia scooter!

(p.s. nice scoot Carmen should be good on juice).

I'm upgrading from a 250cc scoot that I've been using for commuting. The X8 400ie is more powerful - just a shade under 100mph top speed, and more comfy on the motorway, I can imagine doing some serious mile munching on it. Owners tell me they do about 60-70mpg which around the same as my old scooter - and could possibly be better!!
