rim and tyre question
« on: August 05, 2008, 09:20:25 PM »
hi

question about rims and tyres , this bike i am restoring not been used since 1983, dvla agrees to this, previous owner had started to restore it but decided against to concentrate on his bsa,  he changed rear tyre and rim and spokes .

done  a bit of research but wanted to clarify,

rear wheel

rear wheel rim in good condition has stamp D.I.D ( take it this is manufacturer, ) 185 by 18  tyre 306, is this march 06? ( safe to use still ? )

front wheel ( fun starts ) 185 by 19 ( bigger ?) 380 on tyre ( march 1980?)

fron wheel rim is in very poor condition and tyre/rim etc to be replaced, am i right with these codes though, seems very odd to have tyres that seem to differ by  23 years ?

also i am keen to have a go at lacing, possibly might have to take rear wheel apart to clean up hub, think with a spare afternoon i could do it, not keen on doing final trueing ( if thats correct word ) any local wheel finishers to me in northants area anyone could recommend

Interesting and useful link.

Once I got there I didn't read it straight away though, something much more interesting caught my eye...

just heat resistant engine paint, guy next door is a sprayer and had a few tins and asked if i had any use for them, bit of laquer to seal it and hoping  it will be ok.

seem to have spent weeks cleaning and this is first part that actually looks something like i thought it would
