My K6 / K7 mongrel is coming along
« on: January 17, 2010, 12:13:56 PM »
The engine has been my focus point since stripping the bike and I am glad to say it is finally finished.
Replacement gearbox.
New camchain
new rings
new seals
new fastners
plus lots of other bits and pieces
total paint and polish

As it came out of the frame.

Stripped and painted

Assembly

Cleaning and polishing as I go.

Ending up with this............

Looks all to easy in a few pics !
Now for the rest of the bike which is now totally stripped since this pic and a few bits have been made ready.  ;D

Yes Den, they do. Thats the beauty of digital cameras, I took hundreds of images when stripping the bike to make sure I know how it goes back together, and as you say it is nice to do the before and after shots.

Yes that's the right way, lots of photos while you are stripping it, lots of zip loc bags and loads of shelf space !

You forgot the lots of patience  ;D

Looking good. I did the same with mine and tried to photograph everything, including the holes in the crankcases.  :(

Surprising how long the frame looks without the motor in.

Keep the pictures coming.

Cheers

That front tyre in the rolling chassis picture is best replaced with a 4.10x19 as the one fitted looks undersize.

Nice finish on the engine. The polished cam cover contrasts nicely with the rest of the engine.

Started cleaning up the frame today, oh how I laughed when my screwdriver popped straight through one of the lower frame rails, the qhole thing is rotten, guess it will go on hold for now until i can source a seconhand solid frame......

Now that is bad news, I had to have some weld repairs done to the front down tubes on my F1, I must admit I would have the frame surveyed before ditching it as the one you buy may be just as bad.

I would agree with Den. Have a good go at the bad bits and see how bad it actually is. I am sure it could be repaired, but this obviously depends on the state of the chassis.

Post some pictures

Good luck

That Engine looks beautiful, i hope mine looks as good when finished, bad news about your frame, you may be luck and the rot is just in the one place, if so it would be worth repairing with a new peice of tube,
Pete

Boy oh boy did the sound of that engine bring back memories...

The sound of Peter's 750K1 recently was nice, but the sound of a rorty exhaust on a Honda 4 will stay with me to the end of my days.
