Thought I would blow the cobwebs off the F1 (and me) and go for a ride, a friend suggested going to a meeting at The Raven near Whitchurch, loads of bikes and bikers, and some nice Hondas, most of which seemed to be "daily rides" rather than show bikes.
Here's a few pickies

Cheers

Nope, there were never many and for some reason Norvin always sounded better than Vinton

Lovely bike, there's a hell of a lot of work to get the Vincent engine into a featherbed frame, it normally involves a hacksaw and a few blades! My Triton has a unit engine installed and that was difficult enough! Hats off to the guy who built the Vinton 👍

It looks like a Vincent V twin engine.

It's funny how they name them, but probably more how the two part names mash into one than much else.

Norvin as used generally is a norton motorcycle with a Vincent engine, so you can see the lineage.  Vincent didn't really have a frame, engine is structural with an oil tank bolted to the heads and carrying a steering headstock on that assembly, added to which was always girder type forks (aluminium high tensile blades on expensive models) then rear subframe with cantilevered swingarm bolted to rear of engine.

But  by that protocol the Triton should be a "Noriumph" which would sound odd  :)

Others are Vin-Cati and Tri-Bsa with different mixes.

It's difficult to see from the photo but it appears the builder has managed to slot the Vinnie engine into the featherbed frame whilst keeping the frame intact. I have never seen that done before, in normal circumstances the top rail has to be cut out to allow the cylinder heads to fit in the space available. Same applies to the bottom loop. The frame may be cut on the other side. Either way it appears as though the engine will have to come out to get either head off. Fantastic work though, looks factory.

There appears to be newer Featherbed frames being made Dave, saw some a few years back at Ace that had Suzuki fours in them like this one.

Often with bigger diameter tubing too.

Some excellent bikes there, and I’ve always enjoyed the food at the Raven. I once spent a long weekend there (and in the now ruined Cherry Tree across the road) waiting to do a parachute jump from the WW2 airfield next door.

I always fancied squeezing a Harley Sportster engine into a featherbed frame (it can be done, I’ve seen one) mainly so I could register it as a HarDon.

I’ll get my coat.
