I did ask the question as I wouldnt know how to spot a sandcast and asked how to identify one but nobody came back to let me know the differences, probably couldnt be bothered.


Still quite like that though.....

When I have seen Sandcast engines the fins always seem to look flatter & smoother somehow - that was my opinion after seeing one at the Stafford Show.

They are totally different Ted. Sandcast head and barrels and crank cases are as rough as a bears arse and that's just one difference ☺️☺️☺️

Maybe the one at the show had been over polished then - it seemed to have fewer casting web  marks as well. It looked super Matt.

The bike in the advert has a K6 engine in it by the looks of it, maybe even later.

A sandcast is a 1969 production bike and has VIN number up to production number 7414. Anything after that was a K0 die-cast.
The bike in question, as the seller says, is a 1978 F1 model with loads of bits off of an earlier K models. It is a UK registered bike but many of the parts on it are from a USA model, ie, the back end.

Makes one wonder if the V5 shows it has been a cat C or similar or previous owner damaged the frame so used an earlier frame. Could even be a ringer.

He does call it a Bitsa? US rear fender still cheap entry price into the 750 species is it not?

Easiest way to spot a sandcast is different number of screws on clutch cover but cant remember how many
