Red one seems to be replica made in India (?) - look at the picture showing bottom - welds around petcock entrace (by the way I think incorrect)...

Same as Erny. Second item seems odd  !   Is that 750 K6 paint scheme?  On a 550 tank ? Or did they do that colour scheme.

Also in other products from same seller, the same tank, photos and all is listed as aluminium tank and cost is £100 more, something peculiar there definitely.

500 tank looks to be in Starlight Gold, K0 colour only. Same colour as mine on a K1 and personally I prefer it to the Candy Gold Custom of the K1. That's worth the money.

550 tank looks to be a 750 one to me, wrong petrol cap as well.

Not a 750 tank, wrong shape and offset fuel filler. I bought an Indian tank for a British bike a few years ago and it was extremely well made and fitted perfectly, plus the welds were a work of art. It was also made of thicker steel which is never a bad thing with the state of petrol these days. It was cheap as well at less than £100, but it was unpainted plain steel which was what I wanted.

1.Thought the first one would go as I'd have bought it if I was looking for one before posting here. Bargain.
2. Would be a bargain if they sort one or two details as it includes delivery, but in reality not a bargain as there will be duty to be paid.

After a few minutes studying the 500 tank and side panels I decided to buy it. Cost of a respray for my current tank and panels is around £350-400. Plus there is a petrol tap on it, side panel and tank badges as well. Tank badges can go for £40-50 a pair and side panel ones around the same. Then the tank itself is worth £200 or so. So all in all a good deal.

I’ll be removing the tank cap and latch to replace with new ones and fitting some chrome trim around the edges.

TBH it was the colour that made me buy it, Starlight Gold is what I intended to have my 2 spare tanks done in so it saves me the bother of having them done right now.

I’ll see what the paintwork looks like in the flesh when it arrives, it looks fine in the pics but it might not be when seen up close.

Glad to hear you weren’t going to buy it Seabeowner as I felt a little guilty jumping in like that but I suspected it would go quickly and I thought asking you if you were going to buy it beforehand may mean we both missed out.

Got an idea on how to renovate the old petrol cap, they do seem to be prone to having the chrome go all spotty. Got a couple of old ones I can take apart to see how they can be repaired.

I was hovering over buying that 500 tank but I couldn't determine whether it had slight 'tiger-striping' or not. I reckon that it was probably just the lighting/photo but Ken must have bought it and made the decision for me  ;D. Well done mate I reckon it was a bit of a bargain, even if the paint doesn't turn out to be perfect.

Interesting the way the painter didn't candy gold coat the corner underside 'ledge' under tank seam ...not that it matters much. Of course, Honda applied minimal paint on the underside of their tanks anyway.

Does anyone know a source of 'Starlight Gold' paint, other than RS Bikepaints? I just got my mates CB250K4 in 'Gentle Maroon Metallic Custom' matched locally from a NOS side panel ..... it cost less than £30 for 1 litre, when mixed,  of paint .... RSBikepaints charge £117.50 plus around £10 delivery. I was sceptical but I sprayed a panel with it yesterday and it's an almost perfect match for the NOS panel.

RAL is just a colour chart. Most Honda paint is a build up of layers to get the correct colour starting with a base coat. The only paint code that honda still use is NH-1 Black. ;)

RS paints use Lechler paint, my local paint shop told me any Lechler supplier should be able to make up anything RS can supply. He was
struggling to make up Antares red for me until i said RS can make it up. Onto the computer and job done and far cheaper than RS.
