Spare calliper
« on: January 27, 2023, 01:07:04 PM »
After a front calliper if anyone has one going spare?
Unbeknown to me the one I bought and nannied up has a little brass insert missing in  the ‘line in’ thread meaning the hard line won’t clamp up tight on mine. Has anybody got a spare they want rid of?

Thanks in advance

Do you mean the raised profile inside the caliper thread end - I thought it was machined into the caliper body!
(I assume you have the correct profile on your brake pipe end.)

Evening,
Yes, I wasn't aware when I bought the extra caliper for the build, that there were differences so never looked, stupidly. Not my first mistake and wont be my last I'm sure soI'll just knock it up to experience and file it in the 'Bugger' file.

Looking at the one that came with the bike and I actually think is the original one, there appears what I thought was like a raised metal bit but did wonder if it was machined into the body. I only realised when fitting the genuine hard brake line lowers that the newly aquired caliper wouldnt tighten up leaving the line swinging. Thats when I stopped to re evaluate the situation and have a brew.

Either way, as I've got nice shiney new OE hard lines I'm positive all is well there so its the caliper. The problem lies with me buying the wrong bit!
So as it appears I'll buy any old crap as long as it has  Honda stamped on it, has anybody got one for Mejima as she's all lob sided at the front and it's  not a good look! ;D ;D

IIRC Roo the caliper does indeed have a raised cup inside the caliper body, it was a sort of inverted cup and the hard line is dished inwards to accommodate this fitting.

I'm not going mad then, that's good ;D
when I looked at the original one it amost looked like brass or some sort of soft metal that marked quite easily when prodde with a pick so it kinda makes sense as to why it's there but it just seemed a bit lomg winded in manufacturing terms why not machine it to allow the removal of having to fit another part? . The other, bought one, is a lot deeper in terms of inlet and  has evidence of something living there at some point in it's existence in the same space, hence why I pondered on the machined/insert question before posting.
Rather than faff about, for what it's worth it's easier to nanny up a second hand one than pay silly money off the internet and it's not like they're hard to do so easier to do that I reckon. .

Roo, the 750, or at least the earlier ones, do have a removable bit and you can swap the bleeder, or at least the yanks say you can, never tried it myself

That's all well and good, but where the bloody hell am I going to find one of them? Easier, surely to get another caliper, that was my thinking.

I really wouldnt know Ted, I'm no going to try to remove the one in the good caliper for fear of knackering it so I have no reference. Kinda looks similar-ish but really dont know,
