motad exhaust on cb500 four
« on: September 02, 2023, 03:38:44 PM »
I have a motad exhaust for Lazarus until i can afford a 4/4 original style. The front pipes are numbered ok but could do with a pic of how they fit into the silencer and rear mounting bracket. cb550 is the same. thanks in advance
Love the 500 and 550 have a 500 called Lazarus under restoration

I have a Motad on my 400 as you say the front pipes are numbered, iirc when you start to bolt them in position it becomes obvious at the silencer end where they fit. Not sure how similar the 400 & 500 systems are. I've binned my old 500 Motad as the silencer was rotten & front pipes far from great. I might have a photo that I can bob up tomorrow if it helps.

I have come across two different brackets fitted between the 500's and 550's Mick. Must be down to the foot peg hanger position. If you need a different one, i have two types here  ;)

Cheers Graham, I don't have a bracket at all but remember when I got a brand new mot ad it came with 2 brackets depending on which model. Thought I still had the bracket but can't find it.

If you get stuck Mick, send Julie a message and she will dig them out.
Is this a Stainless steel Motad or the mild steel one ?

The rear Motad  bracket is made of toffee, my centre stand managed to bend it up in a matter of days causing the stand to rattle against the exhaust.
You’ll probably have to fabricate something stronger.

Yes steve as I recall they are thin ally, not very substantial. Graham mine is mild steel with some pitting, I will save up to buy an original style one later.

The ones i have in the store room are just the metal type.
Once you are at the stage of the frame and engine is done, everything else is jut bolt on  ;)
