rotor removal tool. Also Gaskets
« on: May 14, 2024, 03:29:27 PM »
When I replace the alternator later this week is it best to have a rotor removal tool?
I also need to replace, at least, the rocker cover gasket and maybe the cylinder head gasket, not sure yet where the main leak is. From which supplier will I get the best quality gasket set please?

Why do you need to replace the generator they rarely fail
If you do no the rotor does not need to come off
Head gasket can be done with engine in, there are not a lot of options for sets now but you will need the special sealing washers under some of the head nuts

Bike 'broke down' two days ago. Battery was not charging when I went on a run two days ago. It is a new battery and I recently replaced the wiring loom. I can't for sure rule out the rectifier or regulator however the AA man, (a biker too, he used to build custom machies for himself) strongly suggested the issue is insufficient charge from the [/color]alternator. Did you check the ohm-readings on the 3 stator wires? That will tell you something. The regulator is more likely to fail...

I would also add you can get corrosion in the output connection block as well as where it leaves the alternator housing.

The least common no charge is the generator,
Most common is bad connection
Next is regulator, especially electronic ones
