Newbies in North East
« on: July 18, 2013, 07:07:40 PM »
Hi - We're based in Newton Aycliffe and have decided that as Sue's only done 600 miles in the last 2 years, we're selling up her ER6-F and going to buy a CB400/4.  That's the plan at the moment, but neither of us have even sat on one! - However we fancy a classic Sue can ride and won't loose value like the ER is.  And it's a good match for my 98 VFR anniversary in the garage! - (Anyone ever seen a 98 400 Superfour anniversary model in this country?).  Probably looking for a 77/78 bike, the ones that came in red or yellow, but got to sell the ER6 first.

Will keep you posted, but if you know of any good CB400/4's coming up soon less than 3 grand let me know! (or if you're really local and fancy letting Sue have a look at your bike, the kettle's on!

So you want to end up with something like this?   8)

The 400F was immensely popular so generally spares or pattern parts are not to hard to come by. Any bike of that age will likely require some fettling at least but you should be able to come by a decent one.

Yep - that's the Aim Tom! - Nice Viffer, thought about a 750, but kinda attached to my 800 and it's doing me well.  Hopefully will get to post a pic like that in a few months..

Stew - you mentioned none for sale in the N/E. If you find one you wouldn't want just see it so you know what they are really like. After that, if you are still interested, distance is no object.

Ok its sight unseen but my VFR came from Dumfries. Had confidence in the ebay listing and the PO was a top bloke. Had it shifted by Lee Costello transport (see my post in recommendations forum). Wasn't disappointed.

Just a thought and good luck looking!

Hello Stew & Sue welcome to the forum, David Silvers Spares seem to be building and selling a lot of 400/4's at the moment might be worth a look  ;) Mick.

Welcome- belatedly!

Why, how much does a DS Honda cost? Ive asked on FB and no one has told me..?
Id guess about £5k..?
If you build/source one yourself, I paid £500 for mine as a non-runner 2 years ago and have spent about....£2k, maybe more on it..

I don't know whether DS doesn't list prices deliberately or not, ( I reckon personally he won't want all the other dealers who have slightly over-inflated prices no some of their nice bikes to suddenly decide that they are worth as much as an expensively restored one ) so it doesn't seem fair for me to open my big clumsy mouth on his behalf on a public forum without asking him.

But if yer interested, send him an email or give him a ring, seems like a nice bloke, and if I had the money, I'd buy one of the immaculate ones, they are not as daft as some of the prices I've seen asked for lesser condition bikes.

However - he has said he can help us out with something around £2500, which would get us a really good bike for use, with plenty to choose from, if not with original honda downpipes etc, thanks for the idea Mick!

S & S.
