Not possible mate, not even Honda kept that info--all they can tell you is when the frame number left the line.

Given the number I can give you a year and maybe a range of colours for that year

Hi Brian,

Thanks for that, ...it's a UK model.... would the DVLA have records? (from 1973)

Otherwise,  yup, I have a range of colours given for any frame batch.

One other possibility...  were the side-panel base plastic colours according to the tank... or all simply a standard item & sprayed accordingly?  (Eg the 400F side panels were base yellow / blue / whatever plastic.

Cheers,
Simon.

Hi Simon.
The reg. document should give you the basic colour ie red, green or blue etc but often not the shade or name of the colour, depends on first registration, my 400/4 was down as blue.only

Thanks guys...

Brian, will back-track and ask your opinion of colour according to frame #; because to be honest, I do find conflicting infos of colours according to year. My CB750 K2 Candy Ruby Red, and....

Vin, chassis No. CB7502077xxx, 1972 date of manufacture (I think)

... and whilst some stuff I read verifies Candy Red, another says Brier Brown, Candy Gold, Sunrise Orange & Planet Blue as the applicable colours for this frame #. (in other words inferring the colour's been changed)

Of course the Reg Doc says 'Red'!

Confused....

Do you have access to the Haynes(Great Bikes) series CB750? There is information concerning the colours, or additional colours as modifications took place from The K1 to K2.
From your frame No. CB750 K2 manufactured (Nov 1971-Sep 72) Ref: Haynes back page
Candy Red was not part of the colour scheme but Flake sunshine Orange is (looks like metallic Red in the book).
I think the issue with the reg doc's is the Colour RED, which could mean Ruby red, Candy red, Flake sunshine orange, Flake apricot red...all Honda colour's that look like RED?...

Frame number is a SELL date of 1972, may have been built late 71---ID plate on RH side of headstock should tell you IF it was a us model that is!!

Colours for that year in US were:-

Brier Brown metallic
Flake Sunrise Orange
Candy Gold Custom

Flake sunrise Orange never came to UK to the best of my knowledge and I think a vast majority of bikes sold were gold, or at least we saw more Gold

I would agree with Bryan, the only additional colour quoted was 'Planet Blue'. If your bike is a USA model (Vin plate riveted on the RHS headstock) then the colour I would go for is 'Flake Sunshine Orange'. Page 57 in the Hayes book, American market K2 photo.

Thanks all,

It would seem Candy Ruby Red not original.... and I'm 99% certain my 'bike's a UK model. Might have considered swapping 'back' to a Planet Blue, but next choice is 'my' red & so will stick with this; despite not perhaps accurate.

Your helps much appreciated,
Simon.

;) rite checked the parts list and looked for all 341 part #  for petrol tank that being the k2. and there was only three for the uk ,and the others are other countries first two letters are for parts list colours only, not a colour code.

#3 17500-300-670cq candy gold.
::) it also lists candy blue green for k1 I think that's wrong and I always thought Polynesian blue metallic was a k2 colour and to top it off it lists colour code dm  sunny gold metalic but is not assigned to any model good news is it lists candy ruby red for all models so looks like a safe bet anyway
my head hurts now I need to lay down :o

Thanks Steff,

Great bit of detective work.... shoulda thought of that!

Cheers too busa, saw this too - it was the source of my 3rd posting above.

In summary, so much conflicting info out there on 'spec colours'.... never quite sure what to believe. Bottom line it works to my advantage, do quite like the Candy Ruby Red... and it seems no-one can authoritively tell me its wrong!

If it's a UK bike, and it's registered to you, download form V888 from the DVLA website, send that off with a cheque for £5 and they will send you photocopies (usually poor but legible) of all the V5 changes of keeper right back to first registration if they have it.

I have obtained histories for any number of my bikes this way.......and the original V5 if you get a copy will show the colour at first registration....job done.

If it's not a UK bike you are back where you started.

DVLA won't work if its an early K2 as it would have had a green old style log book and they did not keep copies of those, only the V5 and V5C
