Fitted tyre, always feels as if you are making some progress when tyres go on  :)

2015_0128frame0003 by nitram2010, on Flickr

Had to deflate tyre and reinflate at higher pressure to get seated correctly, with guide marks even.

Dont you just hate it when you spend ages on a part to then find its the wrong one  :-[

The rear mudguard looked to be in reasonable condition, with some rust on inside.

Spent ages cleaning this off with wire brushes, emery and scouring pads, then painting inside, to find the rear mounts dont line up  :'(

2015_0207frame0012 by nitram2010, on Flickr

Having looked at parts diagram, seems correct one has a sort of extension piece at front mount.

Not sure what the one I have is for?

2015_0207frame0020 by nitram2010, on Flickr

Its a US import, does anyone know what this bracket/holder is for?

2015_0207frame0021 by nitram2010, on Flickr

Does this mean the tail light bracket is wrong too?

Wheels balanced

2015_0207frame0031 by nitram2010, on Flickr

Tape is just to give self adhesive weights a bit of support until bonded.

Considered going for 530 conversion but as bought fairly cheap NOS 630 sprocket decided to keep original

I know what you mean Pete, as it can be a struggle sometimes :(

I sometimes just do a few small jobs, on the basis that its one more less job to do.  :)

One job I dislike is cleaning out petrol tanks :'(

On the K8 the inside was gummed up and looked like molasses!

Tried adding fresh fuel and soaking for a few weeks but no luck.

In meantime I had tank blasted and etch primed as this saves lots of time rubbing down rusty areas and co I use moans about it and I hope reduces their/my costs.

You do not want to be cleaning inside once painted as very easy to damage with spillage.

2015_0209frame0001 by nitram2010, on Flickr

As petrol didnt work I used cellulose paint thinners, with some nuts to shake about.

2015_0209frame0002 by nitram2010, on Flickr

That worked quite well but you need to do in well ventilated area (outside) and wear protective gloves etc.

The first drain out was really dark and I probably drained and refilled (approx 2-3 litres) about 10 times, in the freezing cold  :o

I used a stainless funnel and kitchen towel as filter paper to make sure I wasnt putting grit back in and also allows you to see how much is coming out. Also best to leave sediment in the bottom of container when reusing.

2015_0209frame0004 by nitram2010, on Flickr

2015_0209frame0008 by nitram2010, on Flickr

The problem is knowing when to stop.

Dropping tank, filler cover and new replica side panels off for painting tommorrow.

Re: CB750K8 Project mudguard

After the annoyance of finding the wrong rear mudguard came with bike, looked at ones available.

A fairly rough one was £70, so thought about options.

The correct part looks like it is modified with a short extension piece.

It got me thinking, maybe I could make an adaptor 8)

Started with a cardboard template and an offcut of ally sheet.

Bent in vice with guide piece and rubber mallet.

Check fit, sides are different shapes.

An old stanchion came in handy

Re: CB750K8 Project indicators
« Reply #103 on: February 14, 2015, 05:56:36 PM »
Bike did not have any indicators when I bought.

Ebay purchases were not too bad , but needed a new lamp holder as rusted up.

Decided to try DSS replica ones for front.

Seem quite good for price at £7.95 plus vat and del.

2015_0214frame0003 by nitram2010, on Flickr

Wondered if originals lens would fit.

Original on left, note longer original screws.

2015_0214frame0005 by nitram2010, on Flickr

They do fit but need care to avoid cracking and you need to use original screws.

My tip for fitting light cover screws without breaking, is just use fingers on screwdriver and no wrist action  :P
