Year Of Manufacture letter
« on: September 30, 2015, 04:15:51 PM »
Good afternoon,
I am trying to register my motorcycle (cb750 k2)
I have no documents nor plate number.
I have started the process by filling in a v55/5 from the DVLA.
Unfortunately I am at the stage where I need a Year Of Manufacture letter.
I send my request to Honda Uk twice but it came back as they are unable to find my VIN in their and Honda Japan archives.
They have advised me to contact a qualified organisation or a enthusiast club to obtain an alternative dating evidence.

Has anyone had any experience in this field?

Thanks

Thanks Chris,
It's a bit more expensive and more complicated but it needs to be done.

Many thanks

It's a bit more expensive and more complicated but it needs to be done.
Honda UK charge £25 + VAT (so £30), VJMC charge £35 so not a vast difference in cost.
Yes you need to provide a couple of photos and a bit of information to VJMC but it's not difficult.
Well worth the effort if it gets you what you need!

are you using the Honda original frame,

does it have a number on the headstock?

I think Honda use that to date a bike
lifelong motorcycle rider,and fan

If the bike is a UK unit, You can not get a duplicate reg if you do not know the number plate. If the bike is a import unit then, you should have the customs paper and can register it with a age related letter.

I have VIN and engine number,
The VIN is from the k2 range.
My fear is that I need to send some pictures of the bike but because it has been slightly modified (seat, headlight and handlebars) may have other problems getting a YOM letter.

Thanks

If it's from Italy then it's definitely an import!
Methinks without paperwork you could have a problem as I believe imports should have NOVA paperwork.
You may find it worth looking at the DVLA information (start at https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-uk) to try and find what their requirements are.
VJMC need to ensure "most parts are consistent with the year of manufacture" but that may be the least of your problems.

If you have told DVLA its an import you are stuffed, if not there is a way arround it but not for discussion on an open forum. If you are willing to ring me next week one evening i will give you a number and "advise" on how it can be done

I think import from Europe are easier to register than the ones from US.
I have not sent any paperwork to DVLA, they are not aware of my bike.
Here are some shots of my bike,  (apologies to the purists on this forum).
BrianJ please pm your contact.

I'm in the same boat as you, Chris. I waited weeks for Honda to write to me, with no stamp, to tell me they won't help. I'm now into the 3rd week of waiting for VJMC, but I don't like to hassle volunteers. I'm still frustrated while the weather is so good, to have another bike I can't ride. (I already have a collection of parts that would make a Harley Sportster, if only the engine wasn't FUBAR, and waiting for other people to pull their finger out).

What bugs me most is that armed with the frame number, 2 minutes on Google tells you what year my bike must be.
1969 Honda CL450 'Scrambler'
1974 Kawasaki Z1A
2005 Harley XL1200R Sportster
1985 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera Sport
1978 VW Bay Window camper van
