Registration rejected from DVLA
« on: March 04, 2016, 11:09:17 PM »
Hi there!

I was looking fowards to receive the letter from The DVLA with my v5 as I sent the form and all the paperwork required last week, for my surprise I got a letter today from the DVLA I was all excited until I started reading that my application has been rejected as the manufacturing letter does not provide the right  information...

I'm heart broken

Can anyone help? What am I missing?

Noelia, I would telephone John Wyatt and ask his advice. I have known him for many years and always found him helpful and he must have processed hundreds of these over the years.

About a year ago I went through the process of getting vehicle information corrected and an age-related plate issued; I think the requirements for dating evidence are the same. At the time I was told the following by DVLA when I was trying to find out what information was needed:

Acceptable dating evidence can be obtained from:

• An extract from the manufacturer/factory record - these will have the chassis number of the vehicle against the month and year of production*
• An extract from the 'Glasses guide'- which is a comprehensive guide on production dates and includes chassis numbers
• If the vehicle has been imported and already registered, the original foreign registration certificate.

*A certified copy of the factory record (with the embedded stamp) will be acceptable only from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust (BMIHT)

I know the VJMC are authorised to provide dating evidence (been there, done that) or a dating letter may be available from the manufacturer (needs to be a UK bike for Hondas and even then they don't always seem to be able to come up with the goods). Maybe the requirements have been tightened up but on the face of it a letter from six years ago from someone who says he is authorised by the VJMC doesn't seem to fit the bill.

Your letter from DVLA states exactly the information they require, and non of it is on the Rising Sun document. You need to approach either Honda themselves or a reputable club like the VMCC or VJMC and get a real dating document.

I did that quite a few times here with Honda Germany. In Germany you can get any bike on the road again due to the strange ways licence plates are issued.
I even managed to get a funny 50cc bike on registration which was never sold outside of Japan.
Anyway, If you need an official paper stating that the Frame with this number is issued by Honda with the year it was produced I can get it here.
They don't even need to see the bike.

However, it is not cheap. like 150 euro or so. It used to be 33 euro but than, well they raised it.

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies I have emailed John Wyatt explaining the situation to see if he can amend the certificate. Hopefully he may be able to Re-issue it with the right information? I will also contact VJMC to be safe and whatever is the quicker I will do I was hoping to ride my bike on the Easter holiday!!

I keep you all posted! Hopefully good news!

Thanks!!

I have just put an application in and i used North Leicestershire Motorcycles
To verify the  age.
The certificate they issued had the info on it DVLA asked for so hopefully my application will be ok.
I will let you know as soon as i get it back if it was acceptable.
good luck.

I just emailed Stuart and asked him,
What did you need to provide them with?
How long did it take you?

Thank you!

Go directly to Honda, they are always accepted. Costs £25, if my memory is correct.

Hi Noella

Just registered my 500 K2 with a VJMC dating letter - no issues at all and they turned it around in little over a week.

Honda UK will only issue letters for UK supplied bikes.
I'd go down the VJMC route - I too know that one works.
