K2 tank porn
« on: March 25, 2016, 11:45:24 PM »
Well, had a bit of spare time this evening so thought I'd crack out the tank for the K2 I've just started preparing.

Bought this JDM spec set from Yamiya last year and this evening was the first time I've really looked closely at it.

All I can say is wow - have to take my hat off to the chaps at Yamiya. The quality of the paint is stunning. Will be a few weeks before I've completed the work on the K2 but will share the results when done.

For now, just fitted the fuel petcock, lower trims and cap latch. Some photos...I know this isn't going to be everyone's cuppa tea but I wanted to do something a little different to the normal Candy Gold / Blue options (not that there's anything wrong with those at all)...

Well the tank badges are new Honda K2 items, so essentially the same that would be fitted to a Gold, Blue or Orange tank. I think the silver just accentuates them. You should see this in the flesh though. Honestly the pictures don't really do it justice.

Always loved that Japanese spec silver on the CB750, wonder why they never did it for other countries. I hope it doesn't have the stupid red light in the horn James, that is one thing I am glad they only did in Japan.

It's going to look great James !   The other colour Scheme I liked was the Brighton Bike with the white stripe. Why did Honda never take it any further?

Also there is a lovely shade of green on some newish model cars. Wonder what the CB750 would look like in that colour  with white stripe.

I think the light for up-to speed is a great idea Trig. and I told the guy that at my 'Speed Awareness Course' at the end of last year  :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[. I trawled Yahoo.jp for a year to find the correct oval tacho/speedo with the pickup and output wires on it. Going to fit it to my JDM CB250Dream replica as it was fitted to some CB250/350K models.

Well the thought did cross my mind to source the JDM speed indicator parts - but to be honest it's almost impossible to get hold of the correct parts (rhino horn is ok, it's the red indicator lamp and associated driver hardware that's tough to find). At the end of the day I'm not trying to pass it off as a JDM bike, purely a colour change to try something different. Will keep you posted on progress.

Ash, agreed, really like the Brighton bike colour scheme. Interesting that the head fin detail in the photo is slightly different to the sandcast -->K3 bikes (looks more like K4 -->).? James

Hundreds of differences on that late prototype as detailed by Vic World when he sold the Blue one of the same batch of four on eBay James. John Wyatt was riding one with that colour scheme in 'Top Dog CB750K0 vs Rocket Three' TV programme, so Andrew probably painted it as he's next door to him.

Note the black stripe on the tank trim too James like on the K1.

This is my Speedo and you will see the wires coming out for the speed thingy. I also got a little round module off a CB175 JDM  for peanuts that should go with it. If not I will build an electronics module myself.

Wonder if Kent400 has experience of the JDM speed light clocks?

Nice tank James........I like the colour......perhaps cos it's not the usual colours that we see on here.

I have been looking at buying a painted Tank and matching Side Panels for my CB750K4 for a while on t'internet but everybody seems to be 'Out Of Stock' whenever I have my Bank Card to hand and I'm ready to buy.....having said that, Yamiya have a Planet Blue set for sale (this morning) which I quite like.

Has anyone bought a set from Yamiya and what's the feedback? I wouldn't normally ask but it's a lot of dosh and a long way to send it back to Japan if it's not up to scratch (no pun intended).
Now: 2008 CB1300S, CB750K4, 1970 Bonneville. Various other 1960's 650 Triumph T120's/ TR6's/ TR6C's (all in bits...many, many bits unfortunately). Previous: 2007 CB600FA, 1976 CB500 Four. BMW F800ST. GS750E. ZZR1100. CB1300 (2). ZXR1200S. VFR800. CB750 Nighthawk. CX500. XS500 Yam. Suzuki GT500. BSA A10. Various Lambrettas. Zundapp Bella (honest).

Nice color.

That black stripe seems to be a little too long?
cheers, Uli
