Misc / Open / Vacuum bags
« on: March 07, 2021, 09:58:36 AM »
Just wondering if anyone has tried vacuum storage bags for over winter and are they any good?

My lockup, although not actually wet, is a damp environment. I brought my survivor Suzuki GS1000 back home yesterday and although I gave it a good blast of ACF50 before the winter it's no longer a survivor. I have to continue using the lockup as I cannot find another secure garage in the area and I desperately need the space.

I have two bikes in mind for the vacuum thing, my CB350F and the recently finished Bomber. These are two bikes in mint condition that could be stored for a few years in the lockup in vacuum bags with the desiccant bags in there stopping any humidity.

What's the best way to prepare the bikes for storage, obviously removing all traces of petrol.

On the up side the GS1000 needed some top end engine work anyway and now it's a good excuse for a full restore.

I'm going to have to find a bike that I can actually use through the summer. I think I may part ex the CB1300 for a brand new Bonneville T120. This is why I have no space left!!!

Misc / Open / V5C
« on: February 25, 2021, 04:39:23 PM »
The Bomber should finally be finished this weekend so now I have the next problem. The bike came with the old style V5 not a V5C, and is not listed online. What's the best way of getting it swapped over without ending up taking it to a testing station (I believe Liverpool is the nearest 60 miles away). I was considering getting it MOT'd possibly on the frame number to prove it's okay, then sending the V5 with a name and address (owner) change with a covering letter explaining what's what. Or is there an easy way?

Other Bikes / GS1000 rebore.
« on: February 13, 2021, 05:06:24 PM »
Just started on the top end of the GS1000 and it really needs a re-bore. Anyone know what bore clearance is suitable for the Cruzinimage piston kit. I daren't ask them or they will blacklist me again.

Misc / Open / Cruzinimage delivery shock

I was just about to order a piston set from Cruzinimage when I noticed the delivery charge. A bit excessive I think, and that's the Economy delivery.

Misc / Open / DK Spares
« on: November 23, 2020, 03:58:19 PM »
Been trying to ring DK all day long on 01782-862200. Is this the best number to try as I get through the choices then the music starts for 60 seconds then it cuts me off. Have tried emailing but that so far has not resulted in a call or reply. They have what I want on their website but it just says URL unknown and the same piece is not on the eBay site. How does this outfit manage to sell anything? Is there another number I can try? Thanks.

Misc / Open / Scam or not?
« on: October 17, 2020, 12:26:51 PM »
There are a lot of these coming up on eBay. Does anyone know if they are genuine or a scam. They look too good to be true to me, I imagine you pays your money up front and no bike appears.

Recommended Sources for Parts and Services / Shortening brake cable
« on: September 20, 2020, 06:18:07 PM »
I need to shorten the front brake cable for my Black Bomber by 110mm at the lever end. Does anyone know a reliable place to get this done either close to Blackpool or with a reliable mail service. Cheers.

The Black Bomber Board / Tacho cable clip.
« on: September 16, 2020, 04:08:33 PM »
Does anybody have a spare one of these they would sell. It's for a Black Bomber and it's the tacho cable support clip that keeps the cable off the horn and it's part number 50402-283-000. There's one for sale on eBay but I don't fancy paying £32 for a bit of wire. Cheers.

How much heat does an old type selenium rectifier put out. Would it be enough to damage wiring.

The Black Bomber Board / DSS/CMS Pattern silencers
« on: September 07, 2020, 05:36:59 PM »
Has anyone used the pattern silencers for the Black Bomber from DSS/CMS. If so, did you have problems with the rear brackets. The standard bomber brackets don't fit nor do the later model brackets that DSS said I would need. Am pretty annoyed about that as I have just wasted another £50 on K1 brackets that I cant use. Here we go again with the CMS produced pattern parts that simply don't fit the bikes they say they fit. I really wish CMS would try their parts on an actual bike before selling them. I have just ordered some 3mm stainless flat bar to make some bespoke brackets. Another day of messing about with rubbish CMS stuff. It says in the CMS advert for the silencers that they are perfect replica's made to exacting Japanese standards. What a joke. Anyway rant over.

Misc / Open / Black Bomber harness routing
« on: September 05, 2020, 08:23:31 AM »
Anybody know if the Black Bomber wiring harness goes through the large hole in the bottom of the headlight or through the grommet at the rear. I don't think it goes through the grommet as it is too tight lock to lock. Just want to be certain about it before I connect everything up. Thanks.

The Black Bomber Board / Clip
« on: August 25, 2020, 01:36:43 PM »
Can anyone with a Black Bomber or similar identify where this clip goes as I don't appear to be able to find anywhere it fits. I think it's to hold the large starter motor cable somewhere underneath the engine. Cheers.

CB350/400 / Still got problems with 350F clutch
« on: May 02, 2020, 06:50:50 PM »
Going to need some inspiration with this. I had a good clutch with Cruzinimage plates that were prone to sticking. Decided to change them for better plates but now cannot get it to adjust correctly. It drags badly and makes it difficult to change gear and impossible to find neutral. After messing for ages I put the Cruzinimage plates back in but the result is the same. Had it in and out 4 times now looking for the problem but I appear to have missed something, getting very frustrated with it to be honest. Question, should there be a ball bearing under the clutch push rod. The parts book says not, just not sure, it looks like it's not lifting enough. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Misc / Open / Vehicle of Historic Interest.
« on: April 03, 2020, 11:32:52 AM »
Just about to change one of my bikes to Historic Vehicle and it would appear that the system has slightly changed since the last time I did it. Can it still be done by post or is it only via the post office now. Also, do I need a valid MOT to do it as mine runs out tomorrow. Cheers.

The Black Bomber Board / Bomber fork leg
« on: January 06, 2020, 04:24:19 PM »
Just stripped the forks for the Bomber after finally getting the seal holders off. This is what I found underneath, got to be the worst corrosion I have ever seen on a fork leg. It measures about 12 thou deep so is probably way outside rechroming limits. Don't suppose anyone has a spare fork tube for a Black Bomber CB450K0 going spare. Once again it appears to be a big ask.
