I bought my gold 500 from Dave in 97, along with a lot of expensive stuff. Later on I went back with the intention of buying 3 550's as he had decided to stop importing bikes due to customers unrealistic expectations----came back with 4 and a NOS tacho after haggling with the man himself whilst stnding in the warehouse awstruck as my mates loaded the bikes onto a beavertail transit.

Since then had a GL1000KZ as more parts than i care to envisage , always had great service and frequently talked with Dave on the phone.

He is a good person who stands by his parts and is doing his best to help us all keep this old(er than Honda thought it would ever get) transport going

According to the Honda 550K3 manual supplement:-

Main jet 90
Air jet    130 (don't ask me where this is as I don't know!)
Slow jet  38
Slow air jet 150 (don't know either!)
Jet needle setting   3rd groove E2349F
Float height 14.5mm
Pilot screws 1 1/2 turns out

There are different numbers for the 500K3 which was never officialy imported to either UK or USA but was in Europe

The number is the size of the jet, bigger the number more fuel, I will look at the manual later and see if it quotes a size standard

Polish the float pivot pins with wet and dry paper till shiney and floats move super free, also in the better body pic it looks to me like the spring loaded tip of the float needle is bent which means they need changing too.

the pilot jets deffinately should NOT be bent so they need changing and on the mixture screw there should be a spring, washewr and tiny "O" ring all of which are important.

I have 2 or 3 bits of sets of  these carbs but definately no idle screw washers If I can help with any other bits please ask and i will look.

I have used siriussonic in canada and found them very good

Left hand clamp switch over rides the RH on off and was originaly a German market item that was adopted by a lot of UK riders/dealers because, as you say, it was so easy to turn lights off when dipping

The only known "bad" point on the F2 was that they wore out exhuast valve guides quickly, the replacements were supposed to be harder and last longer but I cannot verify that from first hand. At that mileage they should have already been done as originals were lucky to last till 30,000, unfortunately the only way to find out is to see how much oil the engine burns in use. If they do need doing you are looking at at leat £500 assuming you do all the diss and re assembly

K7 is an bit of an oddball, I have the dealer workshop manual scanned to cd if you want a copy.

bad running on one cylinder is usualy idle jet or plug cap

The K3 Should be M6 and you can get straight or angled, earlier ones were push fit in each end of the bolt

It is reasonably practical to make a different bracket and remember that at one time it had to be flat and vertical with no tolerance whatsoever.

Even if you got an MOT somehow every plod and his brother will stop you on the grounds that they can't read the plate and whilst stopping you will go through the bike looking for anything else they can find!!! Do you really want that agro?
