Bryan,
Sorry I didn't get back earlier - received the fiches the other day and have now scanned them both in for the GL1200.
Took a while - lot of images on this bike and the scanner takes a bit of time to set, focus and scan then convert the image but hopefully it's worthwhile and useful.
It's in two files, max 8mb so I can email together or separately, or stick on a CD and send back along with the fiches if that's better, just let me know.
Going through my fiches I've got another copy of the ones you sent as well as several others (hopefully attached is a photo of the ones I've got here) so if any bits aren't clear on the scanned ones let me know and I can see if there is a better image on another set.
Quality is hugely variable depending on the condition of the fiches, and how long I fiddle with the scanner settings in a cold garage!
Cheers,
Andy

No worries
Actually looking at the collection of fiches I lied a bit - it's thousands rather than hundreds of the little blighters!
Lots of duplicates and different issues of the same bikes etc.
Started sorting them into some kind of order so shouldn't be too hard to find what is or isn't there.
Had a quick look and there are quite a few CB500 / 550 fiches and even some US models but I don't know enough about the various models to know if they're all covered etc.
Scanning is a bit of a slow, long-winded process but so far I've made up reasonable parts manuals for some of the bikes I'm working on and for others so happy to have a go if anything specific is needed.
Cheers,
Andy

Bryan - think I’ve sent the pm but please let me know if you don’t get anything as it’s the first time I’ve done it and can’t see where it shows it’s gone. Sorry, bit of a novice on forum thingys!
Cheers

Spent a happy half hour dusting down the scanner and all seems to be working fine after a quick play so happy to give it a go. I’ll drop a pm with my address.

Had a phase a few years ago buying fiches for no real reason except they were cheap and vaguely interesting! Ended up with hundreds of them so needed something to make them useful for the bikes I wanted to restore and found this scanner which came from the Bank of England. Huge beast but so far has worked well to get fiches into the pc.

If you ever have any specific bike fiche you need let me know and I’ll see if I’ve got one here to scan in.

Cheers

Morning,
I've got a big old microfiche scanner in the garage at home - I can check this evening if it's working OK and if so happy to scan and convert to a pdf if you'd like.

Cheers,
Andy

Announcements / Re: Stolen CB750F1

Sorry to hear about the theft - seems nothing is safe.
CB900fd is a lovely bike - got one in the shed waiting to be done.
Join the CB1100.net site - absolute wealth of knowledge and really helpful guys mainly US based but have answers to literally any query on these bikes 750, 900 and 1100. I restored an 1100 and found the site invaluable.

Roy,
MSP do earlier ones but I think the fiche search bit doesn't show them - bit odd.
The GSX I just finished is 1983 and I've got quite a few bits for this and the 1979 GS1000S from MSP.
If you have part numbers try putting those in - the only thing I found was that they often only work on the 'current' part number where it's been revised - I found using CMSNL good for showing the old and current part number then using this to search MSP.
Bit of a faff I know but I found quite big savings and some parts available that way which I couldn't get in the UK.
Shame there isn't a simple single site that's good but I guess that's all part of the challenge.
If you're doing the carbs, definitely check the GSresources site as they have great tutorials for this as well as links to a US guy for 'O' rings at good price and quickly sent.
Cheers,
Andy

Just finished a GSX1100EZ restoration and on with a GS1000S and you're right there's no single source like DSS. I've used Fowlers for UK stock and MSP in Holland who were a lot cheaper but sterling change has affected that a bit.
Are you after specific bits?
For technical help (and emotional support when needed) the GSresources website and linked sites are really good

Very happy to - just no idea how to do it!
If I can figure out how, I'll stick it there and hopefully be of use.

Dave,
I've got a few fiches for the RS so have scanned in the most recent one and transferred it into a pdf file.
It's about 10mb in size so I can either email it if that's OK your end or can stick it on CD and trust postie to do his stuff.

Cheers,
Andy

Dave,
If it's not a rush I probably will have a fiche and also have a scanner to save the images onto the pc. Takes a bit of time to scan and convert the images but ends up with a decent PDF file.
I can look in the morning to see what fiches I've got if you haven't found anything yet.

Well, either everyone else knows something I don't or I may have got a bargain!
Won with a sole bid of £105
Here's hoping

CB350/400 / Re: Engine swap

That's the one - there seem to be a few appearing but I wasn't sure which engines were compatible.
Seems cheap and reasonably local so might have a stab

CB350/400 / Engine swap
« on: July 22, 2014, 06:12:56 PM »
Hi,
Been keeping an eye on ebay for a replacement engine for my 1975 400f and wondered what compatibility is with later engines - i.e. There's a 1978 one at the moment but i wasn't sure if this would fit straight in etc.
Advice very welcome please
Cheers

CB350/400 / Re: 400 engine repair or replace
« on: March 24, 2014, 01:21:54 PM »
Guys,
Got the engine fully stripped and am deciding whether to bin or rebuild as the general condition isn't very good inside.
Cosmetically all is OK on the outside and joint faces, fixings etc. are all OK which is the good bit.
Pistons / bores are badly worn - clocks show 56k miles so maybe original and just run into the ground by previous owner(s) - I've had great advice and help from one forum member already so think this can be solved quite easily / economically with new liners and pistons.
Camchain guides all look quite worn but I guess are easy replacement.
I think the deciding factor is whether the non-easy replacement bits are serviceable so I'm after a bit of advice on the crankshaft as start.
The crank and bearing areas all look visually OK but I think the big-end side clearance may be over limit - from the old Haynes manual I've got it looks like this is simply a feeler gauge measurement and if so mine is quite a bit looser than it says it should be. Is this the best quick check on condition or would the engine be OK even if there is some excessive wear here?
I'm guessing the crank will be the deciding factor on the fate of the old girl so any advice etc. welcome on how to assess this will really help the decision.
Cheers,
Andy
