Honda-SOHC

Hi, last year when I rebuilt the top end on my cb550, I discovered why my tacho reading was so erratic. I found that the end of the Tacho drive gear was bent. I couldn't get the part from anywhere and after talking with Nurse Julie I opted to have a local welder heat it up and carefully straighten it. It was partially successful, in that it certianly was less bent but he didn't want to risk fracturing it so left it at that. Now I am back on the road running the engine in it's really bugging me to have the errratic needle all the time. I don't suppose anyone on here has one - part number 12431323000 - that they would be willing to sell?

Hi, I have recently discovered and obtained an M reg cb500/4 hidden in the depths of a friends garage. There are no keys, V5 or frame plate and the engine wont turn over. But there is a very reasonable Motad 4/1 fitted, an undamaged rear hub, an externally rusty but internally clean tank ( with fuel still in it - so not leaking ) finished in a very attractive brushed black Clocks show 76000 and there is no known history of the bike - he didn't even know it was there!

Has anyone on here recently had their tank and side panels resprayed. If so who did you use and what did you pay? Most importantly what was the finished result like. I am in Hampshire and would obviously prefer someone local but expect that this will not be the case!

 
I have just finished putting together my 1976 US import CB 550 K, but I have a carb problem. First time of starting I got nothing on number 2 cylinder,followed shortly by petrol overflow from number 2 carb. No problem remove the carbs that took me three hours to fit, take float bowl off to find floats stuck and LOADS of gunge. Spend next two nights cleaning everything in sight with carb cleaner, took floats and all the jets out. Reset float level and reassembled. Whilst at it took all the others apart as well. Connected carbs up to fuel supply BEFORE refitting to check for leaks..........none or any overflow either. Spent another two hours refitting tonight and...........................still nothing on number 2!!! I have checked points and plugs ( new ) and have healthy spark. Where do I go next...................
