Thanks Bitsa

There were two one for £30 or offers and the other for £15 both from DK. Obviously I bought the cheaper one.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Certainly something to think about. Nurses.... Rubber Tubes.... Fetishes.... I completely forgot about the Crankcase Breather  :o

Thanks Bitsa. It looks like DK have one on eBay for £30. I need to double check mine as it looks slightly different, maybe there were differences between UK and USA specification. Might make them an offer as I am not sure it will work and I am from Yorkshire  :)

CB750 / Re: Final Drive Front Sprocket
« on: November 07, 2014, 02:32:12 PM »
Hi Bitsa

Yes it is a K7. Looking at the schematic I do seem to have an additional washer.  The sprocket just can't be tightened on the shaft without an additional shim which seems odd. Doesn't look like anything is missing. I wonder if the front sprocket is just badly manufactured. The shaft looks OK to me.

Thanks

It looks like the bottom half of my crankcase breather filter is completely missing. This is the one that is located directly beneath the battery box. Two pipes are connected to the cap which effectively go direct to the atmosphere. I can't seen to track down a replacement bottom part. Two questions first one is does it matter? The second one is are there alternatives to the OE filter?

CB750 / Final Drive Front Sprocket
« on: November 07, 2014, 01:56:48 PM »
The final drive chain was going tight/loose when the rear wheel was turned. I took the chain off and the front sprocket cover for inspection. The front sprocket was loose and the securing bolt was less than finger tight. It looked like the PO replaced the sprockets and chain. There appears to be an additional washer (the one pictured nearest the sprocket) I am guessing that this washer has actually come off the rear wheel. Without this "spacing washer" it is impossible to tighten the sprocket on the shaft enough to prevent some lateral movement. The manual refers to a 2 bolt lock plate but the sprocket couldn't accommodate this. Has anyone got any thoughts.

Oddjob you are right on both counts. I haven't been on any long runs and on this occasion it was left parked in the sun for a few hours. Normally it is kept in a cool dark garage.

Thanks for the advice. It is definitely oil from the forks and not hydraulic fluid. I think an accumulation of oil must have built up under the dust cover and then leaked out when the bike was parked. At least it didn't leak onto the front brake disc which could have been interesting  :o

CB750 / Front Fork Oil Leak

I never noticed any problem with the oil seals on the forks until last Friday. Went for a 20 mile run on what was a fairly warm day. Parked up in the garage, the next day I noticed about a tablespoon of what was very clean oil under the front forks. The opposite fork also had oil running down the fork leg. If I compress the forks I do get a thin film of oil appear. The forks are in good condition with no pits or roughness. I can see no obvious damage to the seals. Any advice?

Yes that works for me. Also managed to save a copy to my own dropbox account. Cheers that will give me something more interesting to do than watching the Eurovision Song Contest  :)

Have a look at "dropbox" you can create a public link that everyone can use even without a dropbox account. It is free for personal use. It is the most popular file sharing site at the moment. It can be accessed from any type of computer, I-pad, smartphone etc. I have used it for a while and found it very useful.

They don't look like K7 as they don't have a hole in the tang as shown in attached photo.

Have you checked that the points are actually opening and closing and are set to the correct gap. Just wondering if the points have closed up hence no spark. Should be simple to check.

Had a look at the front brakes, cleaned the disk and roughed up the pads as suggested. This has definitely improved them, I guess that's about as good as 35 year old brakes get. Thanks for the tips.

What a glorious day for a ride, felt like the doggys dangly bits cruising around in the sunshine. Plus the helmet improves my appearance, I don't even have to shave. In fact it seems such a useful tool I think I will buy a spare one and stick it in the car to wear when I go out on rainy days.

I was going to post a photo of me actually riding the bike, unfortunately the wife couldn't figure out how to take a picture with her iphone  :o Maybe when my riding improves I will be able to manage a selfie, can't promise it will be the right way up  :D
