One thing to add which i think has been mentioned is the bulbs, the common one has a torpedo shaped glass, is too long and will damage the jewel plastic or clock face.
The correct round bulb is available from Lucas and is a jag mk2 dash bulb, i have the number somewhere and will post it later

I used the Classic Led's for mine some  are only 0.5 W with good lumens, colours also available to cut down glare. I went for Green Instrument lights.

It's horses for courses, some of these little soldering irons are quite good, they take a while to fully heat up, as long as there is enough heat capacity to get the solder to flow properly between the wire and the fitting they work fine.

My Weller is an eary 100 W version,  you are not supposed to keep the trigger on full power for more than 5-10 seconds at a time. I tend to ignore this tbh. I don't do enough soldering to justify the later version that looks pretty handy if you can justify the cost.

My first ever soldering iron was the size of a coal fire poker, it took about 20 minutes to warm up, I think it was branded as Rawplug. It packed up after 25 years. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235874490230

I think Weller soldering irons are the best choice...picked up a PU-1D from eBay a number of years ago...excellent iron.
PS. Lead solder (60/40) with rosin flux core every time...the alloy solder is not very good.

Thanks Alan - Ill have a look out for one of those - where do you get the decent solder? I think that is my main issue TBH.

I bought the whole set with wires and bulbs for my 500/4 some years ago and worked well. Can’t remember where from but could have been the USA. If no luck a USA forum may well have a source.

Here’s some mentioned earlier

https://www.vintagebike.fr/faisceau-de-tableau-de-bord-cb-500-750-four37581-323-000p-t

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334039996105?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=VGLMpv-UTVy&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=hkXEB8tRRti&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

The first link from vintagebike has the correct genuine Honda 3.4w bulbs fitted (as listed on his website).

The second link has standard off the shelf 4w bulbs fitted and will risk melting your console.

Valid point concerning the second listing...the eBay listed item has been supplied with the low profile lamps for a number of years now..as attached picture.
The 4watt standard lamps (longer profile) have been fitted in my CB750 K4 console for 15+ years...no signs of heating.
