Honda rear sprockets - outer chain guard question ?
« on: March 24, 2025, 10:07:47 PM »
My Superdream rear wheel drive sprocket does not have the original chain guard attached.

The existing chain & sprockets have only done 725 miles since 2017, I'm not worried about the originality aspect purely safety.

Aftermarket rear sprockets with a chain guard are available for around £20, is it sensible to change the rear sprocket?

There are two thoughts about that Ted
1 you can rest the chain on it to push the wheel all the way forward if the swingarm has the removable ends like on 500
2to stop the chain wrapping round the axle spacer if you are silly enough to let the chain run supper slack

They were fitted Ted so that if the rear sprocket actually looked as smooth as the chain guard you were forced to think, mmm I think I might have to buy a new sprocket.  :) :)  :)

I gather they stopped a chain coming off altogether if it jumped the sprocket, something maintenance should be stopping. I managed to buy an aftermarket one from Steve at 400Four bits, it fits on by using the sprocket nuts and  bolts, originals were riveted to the sprocket to be discarded with it. I have it because it has a really classic look to it. Two CB400f's in the pic, mine before I got one and another with one.

I agree the rear sprocket with the chain guard does look more 'period', I have one on my 400.
