Stubborn grips
« on: October 10, 2026, 08:29:12 PM »
I'm soon to change for the first time in eight years my handle bar grips. I remember the hell of getting them on then, anyone know an easy way?

If you're fitting the OEM ones like I stock, they should be pretty easy to fit on George.

Clean bar and throttle grip with Naptha (tin of lighter fluid) and let dry, then slosh a little inside grip and straight on with in one surprise movement  :)

Usually not bad like that, and don't slip afterward.

Damn, I'm too late for that Julie, unless things go pear shaped with the ones I've ordered.

I used Wendy's Hair spray to make sure they stay in place, particularly for the throttle side.

I used Meths to clean the bars / throttle tube.

Hi Ted, what to say? I have no Wendy's in the house. Meths, well I quit drinking that years ago!  ;D

Gel hand sanitizer works for me (from our much loved COVID days)

Wipe it on the bar or inside the grip, they slide on easy then as the alcohol evaporates, the residual tack will keep the grips firmly in place.

That sounds like the cleanest option, I might take you up on it!  ;D

I used the tie wrap method , so put several medium tie wraps between handle bar and hand grips which seemed to work very well for me.

This is the tie wrap method I used and thought it was very straight forward.

That's quite a nifty trick. Can't see how it would work on the OEM CB SOHC/4 grips as they are fully closed at the end.

I don't think so Ted, they look like the type of grips where you have bar end weights fitted.
