Fork advice please

I need a lower fork leg and found this on the bay of theives.
It has an obvious crack at the top of the leg, so how important would this be as to the actual function of the forks/bearings etc. I can get it welded but would seek your advice first as I know sweet FA about these things.

never, ever use anything that has been damaged on a critical item, which the fork is. there may well be other fractures not visible which could prove fatal. keep searching!

+1, you have to ask yourself, why did it crack? Would you want to risk?  It may be bent as well.

Thanks guys, you have just confirmed what I was thinking. Maybe I was getting a bit desperate!

I have some fork legs you can have cheap - they have new seals in them too

Will probably fit and seal OK but the brake caliper brakets and calipers are different

GJ, just out of curiosity what are you looking for in the gold coin department? The brakes are not a problem as some dickwad has bastardised mine hence the search for a new lower.

I would check on CSML for compatability of the internals (using their schematic diagrams) because from memory (when I was sourcing bits for my original basket case), the lower internals are different so if you're using internals from the earlier (upto early k2) they may not fit - worth a check

Hi Mike, TBH I don't know 

I bought them from Bitsa on the off-chance that I could use the fork tubes which luckily I was able to use with the standard bottoms.  Only difference is that the tubes were about 7mm shorter than standard so the old girl should steer a bit quicker, not that ive noticed any difference.

I think that even if the internals vary the bottom allen screw that holds it together is the same so they should fit, you need to use the internals that go with the steel tubes to get the lengths correct
