It does look like there is a gap there, if I remember rightly the shoulder that it goes up against isn't square so it looks like there is a gap, but I've never had any bother with it and the bikes been back on the road for quite a few years now. I just tapped in as far as it would go keeping it square.

Head bearings fitted with thanks to all for the info/ links provided

The hackaweek tool for removing the bottom race worked a treat, as did the threaded bar for pressing new bearings in.

Yippee the old girl now steers round corners without all the crunching and stepping out of the steering.

Next project while we wait for the front wheel to come back from re chroming

We found an original exhaust that is practically unmarked and been dry stored - So the old one is for project 2 (Yellow)and the new for my project 1 (Red)
We also have a spare original exhaust that is in need re chroming, we have repaired it and its quite solid so should be ok as a spare should we need one in future years

Just fitting the stickers to the F1's from Piki and 1 has me lost as where it is located.

The silver exhaust modification sticker - I didn't have one on the bike, so no reference point to work from.

Advice please if anyone can help out?

According to the parts manual I'm pretty sure that it supposed to go on the top of the swinging arm by the rear brake cylinder, mine did not originally have one, but as it came with the kit I stuck it on.

New Exhaust arrived and fitted - Lovely job no marks like a new one.

Checked DS for an original rear wheel rim and its only £20.00 more than having the original re chromed
One on order, no 3 month turn around as I found with the front rim took it in in Jan should be ready to collect End of March
(DS didn't have a front rim in at the time)

"Bugger" Ive done it again
Got all the bits to refurbish and fit the new rear wheel
New Stainless spokes from central wheels - New Did Rim from DS - New Bearings from wemoto with retainer - Old Hub Cleaned and polished
All Old bearings out
Made a tool for removing retainer - good job as retainer purchased from wemoto was incorrect size.
Fitted 1 bearing to the hub then the other and that was the mistake forgot to fit the centre spindle -out comes one new bearing to be replaced with another.
New bearing arrived and fitted after the centre spindle this time.
Respoked the old polished hub - cheated and took it to  a local shop for spoke trueing and new tyre fitting

Fitted an Avon Road Rider Tyre

Job Done   - Next the front wheel

Hi Dennis

Thanks - Tyre size is 110x90 x18 Tubeless (but I had a tube fitted)

To think about 40 years ago, I took off the original spoked wheels and standard exhaust, to replace them with a set of Lester mags and a short sportier type exhaust. I just gave these away to dealer when i sold the bike, as many of us would have

Now I just want to try and return it to stock where possible

Cheers

Thanks for the info on the tyre looks great. I know what you mean about messing these bikes up when we first got them, I replaced the original heavy and complicated headlamp bracket with some nicer smaller ones, a Dunstall silencer for a nicer noise and more ground clearance, I fitted an F2 grab rail and indicators because I thought they looked more modern and replaced the steel rear mudguard for a nice shiny home made aluminium one, luckily I kept everything apart from the mudguard which took a while to track down, they looked like they were designed to rust with those open flutes. When the tank started to leak I fitted an F2 tank and seat in black, which I like the look of, the original red items are in the loft though.

Cheers
