(Project 2  - 1977 Yellow F1)

After looking for a pair of F1 fork leg base units with no Joy,I decided to try another option
The bike had F2 forks with twin discs and the fork legs/sanctions were fine.
Ash helped me out with a pair of K7 fork bottoms.
Trigger helped me out with F1/K7 brake plate B.
The braided hoses and mudguard off the red project 1 they fitted nicely as a good replacement for now.
The allen studs in the base of the forks are not the easiest to get out but a bit of patience and ingenuity made it happen.

My allen keys did not fit and one was rounded, so I used a screwdriver drill set bit upside down to fit the allen keys.
After a bit of bashing the bit was a tight fit, then a spanner on the hexagon sides they came out easy enough.

Before:

After

The fork legs transferred over easy, just got to refill with oil ,bleed the brake and then repaint calliper

Another step closer to having 2 F1's looking and running well.

Hi all  sorry now working away so updates are slow on progress with project 1 Red completed, it time to further progress Project 2

Yellow project 2 is now underway again as Keith Jnr is aiming for going to TT on it this year

The harness and electrics keep raising issues so we have decided to renew the system and get rid of all the gremlins

New Parts to fit:
Wiring harness - (Thanks Big Al - the harness is spot on and will be a real bonus)
Rectifier - DS
Fusebox - DS
new switchgear left & right for both bikes - classic bikes Germany
Coil Packs - DS
Fuel Lines - Car Store

Original down pipes off to be re-chromed
original silencer to fit on return
I will get some pics if I can as Keith Jnr Progresses

strip down starts this weekend

next stage will be on the wheels to return to spokes  - if we can source some hubs?

Cheers

Keith Snr

All The old wiring Harness removed and you can see why we had a few gremlins

Only issue was new coil packs had male connections same as loom  - not a problem female double coupler used

All new fittings replaced with exception of switch gears these are still in transit

Gremlins all gone thanks to the new harness

Quality of work from Big Al is excellent and I would recommend anyone with a butchered Harness to invest in a new one from Him.

Looks familiar, I wish I had thought about a new harness at the time, I spent quite a bit of time cleaning every connection with WD40, a cloth, and wooden stirrers liberated from McDonalds, then coated each one with dielectric grease.

Cheers

I put my loom in dishwasher and hung it up to dry,  it came up like new, with years of black muck removed,  I could then see the different colours.  I just needed to replace some of the outer sheathing and replace a couple of bullets.
Where's that 10mm socket got to?

We have sourced a set of spoke wheels to refurbish, but unsure if just to save the melber mags or sell them on

The wheels are excellent refurbished condition, they don't take up any room and are getting rarer by the year.

You never know when we have completed the 2nd F1 yellow project we may start another one going.
