Bomber did OK At H&H today 400F's did Cr*p
« on: July 03, 2024, 07:11:27 PM »
1966 Bomber did OK at H&H Auctions today, as made £7,000 plus Fees (I guess around 1K ) so buyer paid around £8k

The three 400/4's didn't do well at all IMHO.

Are classic bikes suffering suppressed prices with this cost living crisis thing? I would have thought the Norton rotory would have been worth more, maybe the paint job did it no good. I wonder what had the RAC use it, it can't have been bad.

400/4 prices appear to be dropping, the were a couple at another recent auction that didn't do very well.

I think it depends on the example Dave and those auction bikes are often, sadly,   deceased estate bikes that the seller knows little about the exact history and understandably just wants out of their way.. The bomber did well though, about right for a lovely example, albeit an imported one, not genuine UK.

There was also an import  Kawasaki KZ650B with standard exhausts that went for a really low price as well.

I think you are right Ash - there were scant details about the 400s in the descriptions especially about any engine restoration or even if they were all runners.

I suspect another factor is that there are a lot of 400s in the market to choose from as they are a popular bike.

I have also seen it with property, mainly  bungalows near me Ted. People pop their clogs and then you suddenly find they have far flung children who materialize. They price the property really low to get rid with minimal hassle/upset/having to constantly travel the long distances and the property sells almost instantly for far less than it's really worth.
I guess a deceased bike is a reminder of their loved ones and the sight of it upsets them quite often Or the reverse happens where they can't bear to ever part with it and it lies unloved for decades.

It's interesting that due to modern planning rules new bungalows in our area are just not being built in any volume, the few new developments that are building them appear to be OTT pricewise.

I have attribited some of the quite low prices on local bungalows due to them not having been brought up to date often needing new kitchens, bathrooms, old boilers complemented by asbestos roofed concrete pre-fab garages.

I don't like to think about what would happen to my bikes when I've fallen off the perch!

From a classic Brit dealer ... I reckon this was a steal too. look at those standard Hen's teeth exhausts.

What a lovely little twin there Ash.

Sounds really good running too (through headphones) my father's friends had various different Honda twins before I was old enough to ride bikes, funny how that sound memory is still so clear from then.
