Great job on the tanks, how long did it take you to achieve such a high standard.
Cheers

Hi Tim
We have always been restoring Bikes and Cars using both rattle cans and Air fed systems
We are not professionals, we just both love to keep going till we get it right.
Not always the case with paint, but we have found if your prep work is good the top coats are easy.
Its also the quality of the rattle cans, we always use a proper paint supplier as we have found the pressure and cast of the spray to be a lot better.

Hi Roy
As we say not professionals, but if your stuck when we have finished these I am sure Keith Jnr would consider helping out.The paint costs for our was around £75.00 per tank

Cheers

Project 1 nearing completion getting ready for final checks/cleans and MOT - every thing seems ok apart from I have had to remove top front braided hose it was too short and binding on left turn

Heres where she was In May 15 not run since 1990's  and forgot about

Heres a pic of how she stands today
You wouldn't think it took me 3 months to wash it and put mudguard on would you

What finish do you have on final prep Keith? I have two CB250 tanks that I need to have painted.I have removed most of the paint with (proper) paint stripper but I was considering dry bead blasting them as final prep with 50/100 Vixosheen glass beads. Will this finish be fine enough for candy (or metallic) paint?

Hi Ash

We finished with 1200 Wet & Dry prior to primer and between base undercoats
From the read up it sounds as if it would do the job ok,but we are no experts in bead blasting, we did it the old fashioned way with a stanley blade and sore fingers

Cheers

Hopefully this will be resolved as we have another original exhaust for project 2 which requires re chroming on downpipes. When they go in so will these

Cheers

There looking sharp Keith. Nice one. I will probably get flamed for this, but I to kinda like blued pipes. Shame they aren't all blued the same though. Guess they aren't double skinned on the F1 then?

Yes, they ARE double skinned on F1, to go blue like that, one cylinder has been running very hot, for a long time, or the inner skin of the pipe has broken up/cracked or spllit allowing hot gases to discolour the outer skin. If it was running that hot, it could damage the piston (weak mixture), if the inner skin has failed, re-chroming will be a waste of money, as it will discolour again.
If it's got tits or wheels, it's hassle, if it's got both, RUN!!!

Exhaust is from another donor bike which has a fine running engine, so I was informed.

I can only presume in its previous exhaust life it had some engine issues, to cause blueing of pipe, also slight yellowing on No 1 pipe.Personally I think the old engine was out of sync and running hot on the 2 effected cylinders causing discolouration.

I think i will still gamble and have them re-chromed again ,but thanks for comments

Exhaust on the yellow bike looks like a Motad, in which case pipes would certainly only be single skinned.
