Hmmm can't see any form of zinc plating on any of mine.

Betcha they turn out to be double-skinned like the 750 no.no. ones. Those crafty b@ggers at Yamiya obviously can source from the original manufacturers. Like the wrinkle tanks that supposedly have the same wrinkle patterns as OEM. Not so good news for Ian at Motad though, if they are double skinned. He's put a lot of effort into their repro 400/4 system and a nice bloke to deal with. Put a couple of auto advance units into the Ashimoto patent vibratory polisher and they came out looking pretty nice. I don't think these were ever plated, so what does everyone think about final finish to match original? Spray with WD40 maybe or was there a surface finish? They are Nippon Denso (ND) and Hitachi manufactured.

It was only a simplistic calculation David. I am sure whatever price you come up with, you will giving us the best deal anyway, particularly over your namesake Can you ask Yamiya if the headers are double-skinned please and also if they have any plans for CB500F pipes ( I believe originally HM323, as some members need them). No mate, the exhausts on the black one have been re-chromed. Yours are on the gold one.
What did you pay for re-chroming Graham and who did it? Gorgeous looking bikes BTW

Well sod that, when are they going to do a system for the 500-4?
Don't forget it was only a few weeks ago I asked Yamiya if they indented doing the 400/4 ones and they said no. Bet they have access to the supplier who last sold genuine 500/4 pipes to Honda. BTW the guy who cleared out 'Queenies' said he found a no.no. original 750 pipe tucked under a radiator. That place must have been an amazing place. Only ever saw the sales counter...friendly bunch though, as I remember.

Stanley rear lamp housing .. as fitted to early UK bikes (CB750K0/K1, CD175 sloper, CB250/350 K0,K2, C50). (not 400/4 though Tom).. They always pit the chrome at the top where the 'Stanley bla bla text is stamped. There was also one sandcast 750 fitted with one ... the Gold 'Brighton Show' PP bike.

Field is virtually short circuit anyway. Best way to check is connect 12v in series with an 18 watt bulb and the field winding. The 1.5 A series current, should magnetize the pole pieces . Check that both fields have approx. same magnetism. Identify with an ohm-meter the pairs of segments on the commutator relating to each armature coil, in turn and pass the 1.5 A(using the bulb) through each in turn and check for magnetism with a screwdriver on the laminations. If all OK with approximately the same magnetism, suspect the commutator is faulty or a sticking brush or brushes not contoured to the curvature of the comm. Clean up the comm as described by Trigger. If its badly scored or worn have it skimmed. The 'undercut' of the mica between segments of the comm should be more than 0.2mm (I think but will check). As Trigger says, clean out with a toothpick and cleaner.. also Check that there is infinite resistance between the copper segments and the armature laminations and also the field coils and the tubular casing. If you can find an old motor shop with a 'growler' they can check the comm magnetics but my method above works for me.
Bet you can fix it if you do all of above or at least convince yourself that it is indeed sha**ed but as Trig says, they are normally very reliable.
The original shop manual gave very little .. My 1968 CB250/350 manual was the best on it.
Below is the '77 CB750 offering from Honda but I would still use my method in the absence of a Service tester (basically used as an Ohm-meter anyway in this test)
I do have a spare motor but I won't let it go until I have rebuilt my K0.

I think they are a great little bike,I very nearly bought one from DK not to long ago.

I DID buy one from DK Mick... Did a deal outside of eBay for less than a grand plus they found the USA title for it at the 11th hour and also threw in some missing bits including the wrong 'G5' carbs which I then sold for over a 100 quid on eBay. Most of the chrome on the DK was immaculate inc. rims, mudguards, one piece exhausts etc. I already have a red CB250 K0, like the prototype one, but the DK ones is going to be Candy Blue/Green and white.I don't like the solid 'Forest Green' much myself or the 'solid' 'Sardine Blue'.
